The Bulakorn Spa & Massage offers a full pampering treatment without the time-consuming frills

TAKE time out this week to pamper yourself with a relaxing treatment at The Bulakorn Spa & Massage. Located right in the heart of the city on Sukhumvit Soi 6, the spa might not look like much, but it does offer good quality service and straight-to-the point treatments using high quality organic products.

The Bulakorn – the name is Thai for a treasure chest – is packed with nifty spa treatments for those with little time to spend on themselves. Designed to pamper with no frills, it does away with the lovely but largely unnecessary rituals, such as the long, elaborate foot bath and incense burning, and gets straight to the treatment. The spa keeps it simple too, allowing you to make the very most of your pampering. That’s not to say they don’t have the facilities for a longer spa break: Bulakorn is well equipped with both sauna and Jacuzzi.

After seven years of operation, The Bulakorn has become known for its Royal Thai Massage, which is less painful and much more relaxing than those found elsewhere. Another highlight is The Bulakorn Scrub, which uses custom made organic ingredients produced exclusively for the spa by Khaokho Thalaypu, Thailand’s award-winning organic health and beauty brand based in Phetchabun province.

The spa’s signature scrub recipe consists of black sesame seed, white sesame seed, jasmine rice and perilla seeds mixed with perilla seed oil. The grains are so finely ground you won’t feel “scrubbed” at all, but more like being slathered with a sesame-flavoured smoothie. The therapist works her hands in a circular motion, applying pressure to achieve the exfoliating effect. The heavy kneading also helps moisturise your skin, allowing the omega 3-rich perilla seed oil in the mix to penetrate the skin.

Sesame is rich in vitamin E that naturally protects the skin from the sun and slows down ageing. It also has a detoxifying effect, and sesame oil can remove some toxins on the outer layer of the skin. It disinfects too, leaving the skin clean and refreshed. The Jasmine rice is used mainly as an exfoliator and is more delicate than other types of grain or salt.

The Bulakorn scrub takes a full hour and despite the pressure is not in the least painful.

You should try to finish with an Aromatherapy Massage where the therapist uses long strokes, her palms and acupressure to release muscle tension and ease stiff joints. Once again, the spa blends its |own organic massage oil from grape seed oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil.
