Well-known US talk show host, actor and producer Oprah Winfrey has been known as a promoter of food sovereignty for the Hawaiian Islands, for her sustainable farm, and for the trademark Oprah’s Organics for beauty and food products. She is now running a Monsanto advertisement in her O Magazine, according to various sources.
A petition has been launched, asking Oprah to drop the Monsanto advertisement in her magazine. She has been recognized as one of the most powerful women various times and her influence on American families through her vast work as the host of The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Oprah Book Club, and O Magazine is massive. The petition says that Monsanto has spent over US$10 million in 2014 alone on anti-labelling campaigns, preventing Americans the right to know what is in their food, and explains the other negative impacts of the company. The full petition can be viewed and signed here.
