All over Tokyo can find air-conditioned places and catering establishments where you can relax, but also run the risk of catching a cold. A nice and healthier alternative are cafes and restaurants with an outdoor terrace and numerous beer gardens.
Beer gardens are open only during the warm/hot season from late spring to early autumn. Most of them are on the rooftop of buildings in central Tokyo, only a few in residual areas and in the outskirts. There are also a few, nice but rather expensive beer gardens on ground level with many trees and at the seaside.
Most beer gardens offer various brands of bottled beer, some also have pricey craft beers. However, most customers prefer draught beer served in mugs or pitchers, even though it is a bit expensive, sometimes with too much froth, and the beer gets warm quickly.
The food (with some exceptions) is mediocre typical beer hall fair.

Organic food and beverages are not yet on the menu of beer gardens. With a growing demand this will probably change.
