Natural Cosmetics at BioFach Japan Organic EXPO

The demand for natural cosmetics is on the rise globally. Japan is not an exception where Japanese women are said to be the largest investors in cosmetics. With increase of atopic allergy and the growing consumer awareness towards safe products, the market is rapidly expanding. BioFach N殲nberg, the largest organic tradeshow will host a separate event specialized in natural, organic cosmetics and wellness products under the name VIVANESS from its next show in February 2007. This year at BioFach Japan, many companies from Japan and overseas will exhibit natural cosmetics. While a global standard for natural cosmetics has yet to be established, many third party certifying organizations have begun to establish guidelines, such as BDIH and DEMETER, a welcoming move to ensure consumer protection. BioFach also has exhibit standards for natural cosmetics as follows:

●Full declaration of ingredients (INCI, CTFA)
●No testing of end products on animals.
●Best before date/maximum durability labeling (according to INCI, CTFA)
●Only cold pressed or by steam distilled pure essential oils
●Joss-sticks made only from natural substances are pure oils without any artificial admixture or binding agent
●No synthetic artificial fats or oils (except neutral fats), no mineral oil products
●No synthetic aromatic amines
●No EDTA/NTA complex molecules, no formaldehyde or formaldehyde separators
●No synthetic musk agents
●No halogenorganic compounds
●For each product no more than 2 or 3 questionable substances per product like PEG of synthetic preservatives should be present
